Meet Serena Wetmore!
My name is Serena and I have cerebral palsy. It can be difficult sometimes, but I like to think I’ve done some cool things along the way. I started school at age 3 and was in all ESE classes. By third grade, I managed to get in mostly general ed class, except for math. I’ve always been terrible at math. In middle school and high school I was fully mainstreamed with my accommodations. I worked hard and graduated from High School as part of the National Honor Society. I’ve been going to college and received my AA degree in May. In addition, I’ve been doing a lot of volunteer work as a mentor for other young people with disabilities. More recently I have been going to local conferences to spread information about my volunteer job, the Family Café, and of course the Florida Youth Council. Sometimes I also share my experiences about how students can use their IEP’s to be successful at school and what it is like to have a service dog, since I used to have one. I plan togo back to school soon to pursue my Bachelor’s degree.
